Day by Day Itinerary
Start in Ouarzazate with a visit to the famous Atlas Corporation Studios — where sets from Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and the Game of Thrones series were built. Visit the extraordinary Taourirt Kasbah in town. Drive to Ait Benhaddou — Morocco's most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site: a fortified earthen city (ksar) perched on a hillside above a river, with six kasbahs inside its ancient walls. Climb to the summit for panoramic views. Continue east through the stunning Rose Valley (in spring the roads are lined with blooming Damascus roses) to the market town of Kelaat M'Gouna. Overnight in the Rose Valley.
Morning drive into the spectacular Dades Gorges — dramatic red rock formations, known as "Monkey Fingers", carved by the Dades River over millennia. Walk into the gorge and spot traditional Berber villages clinging to the cliff sides. Visit the ancient palm oasis of Skoura, with its century-old kasbahs hidden among 1,000 palms. Return west via the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Overnight near Ouarzazate or Ait Benhaddou.
Dramatic mountain crossing over the Tizi-n-Tichka pass — the highest road pass in North Africa at 2,260m. Stop at Berber silver jewellery stalls and enjoy breathtaking Atlas panoramas. Descend through cedar forests into the Haouz Plain, arriving in Marrakech by early afternoon. Optional medina visit: Djemaa el-Fna square, the souks, and the Koutoubia mosque. Drop-off at your Marrakech hotel, airport, or train station.
