Day by Day Itinerary
Depart Tanger (8:00 AM). Drive south along the Mediterranean coast to Tetouan — visit the UNESCO-listed Spanish-Moorish medina with its white-washed buildings, Spanish architecture, and vibrant artisan quarter. Continue into the dramatic Rif Mountains through pine and cedar forests. Arrive in Chefchaouen — the iconic Blue City. Afternoon and evening exploring the photogenic blue-painted medina alleys, the central plaza of Uta el-Hammam, and the old kasbah. Overnight in Chefchaouen.
Morning walk to the Spanish mosque above Chefchaouen for the best panoramic view of the blue city. Drive east to the imperial city of Meknes — visit the magnificent Bab Mansour gate and the medina granaries of Moulay Ismail. Stop at Volubilis — the UNESCO Roman ruins with stunning mosaics (2nd century AD). Arrive in Fes for a guided afternoon/evening tour of Fes el-Bali medina — tanneries, Al-Attarine madrasa, souks. Overnight in Fes.
Morning continuation of the Fes medina tour — visit the famous 11th-century Chouara tanneries (best viewed from leather shop terraces), Bou Inania madrasa (stunning Zellige tilework and carved cedar), and the Kairaouine mosque/university. Drive north back to Tanger via the plains of Gharb and Meknes. Arrive in Tanger by early evening (~5–6 PM).
